Canada’s Ski Season Ruined

by admin on 2009/04/28

Some people are calling it the worst season in 10 years after incredibly bad snowfall and poor skiing conditions left the slopes empty. People taking holidays in Canada this year got something of let down.

Plentiful snow and some of the best ski runs around make Canada world renowned by skier and snowboarders alike.Hoards of people head to the Rockies every year in search of their snow fix and the resort of Whistler is practically a house hold name. This past season did not provide the usual delights that people expect however.

Just before Christmas a period of -30 degree high pressure meant the slopes stayed pretty sparse and the low pressure that followed fails to deliver the needed dump.Any snowfall that did occur was only in the region of 3-4cm and this tended to melt away quite quickly anyway. One man interviewed as he left a resort states “it’s been borderline terrible”. Bare exposed slopes had been waiting for him when he made the trip out to Castle to previous week.“I maybe got 4 days of riding out of 14, that’s not good”.  Another visitor said that she decided to ditch the skiing in favour of doing some sightseeing on one of the local company’s polar bear holidays.

Some people blamed global warming for the unusual lack of snow, saying that atmosphere pressures have been all over the shop and temperatures have been no more reliable. This argument is however a little undermined by the fantastic season that both Europe and the large amount of the American resorts have just. Most put it down to poor fortunes and hope for better luck next winter
